Slack Tooltip
Instead of a lengthy tutorial, Slack uses smartly timed tooltips to introduce first-time users to key platform features. This screen directs attention to channels, ensuring users immediately understand their purpose. For someone new to Slack, this is crucial—without this nudge, "channels" might feel abstract or confusing.
The tooltip appears right where the user is already looking—the sidebar—reinforcing relevance. This minimizes cognitive load by delivering information exactly when and where it’s needed.
Not all users onboard the same way. Slack acknowledges this by providing two options: "Got it!" – For users who want to proceed quickly. "Click here to skip" – For users who prefer to explore on their own.
